Madelon M. "Maudy" Menzia was born August 17, 1921, in Aberdeen, SD, to Anton and Helen (Volk) Menzia, migrants from the Kutschurgan villages, Ukraine. Madelon attended St. Mary's School and graduated from Aberdeen Central High in 1939.
She married her high school sweetheart, Frank "Spence" Zerr in 1942, and they celebrated 65 years together.
Madelon enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and embroidery and made many beautiful creations for family and friends and for the church bazaar. A lifetime member and supporter of St. Mary's Church, she spent many years singing in the church choir. Madelon was a fantastic cook and inherited many delicious "old country" recipes from her mother. She was the last surviving original member of the Hi-dee-ho card club, a group of life-long friends. She enjoyed raspberries and vegetables from her garden, and took pleasure in always having fresh flowers in her home.
Madelon is survived by her children: David (Jan), of Burnsville, MN; Mick (Linda) of Sioux Falls, SD; Tim (Nancy) of Wilmington, NC; Tom of Mobridge, SD; Mary (John) of San Antonio, TX; Laurie (Gary) of Aberdeen, SD; and Dan of Eau Claire, WI; 15 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Rose Watson, Madalen Schmaltz, and Lola Binfet; brother-in-law, Jack "Choc" Zerr; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant sister, Mary, brothers, Conrad and Andrew, and daughter-in-law, Liz.
