Lyle M. Nelson, 91, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at his home.
In respecting Lyle’s wishes, there will be no formal services.

Lyle Marvin Nelson was born to Raymond and Elise (Hagele) Nelson on November 3, 1932 in Tolstoy, SD. He attended Cloyd Valley School District and Bowdle School District.
When Lyle was 18 years old, he purchased his first airplane and after six hours of training, flew his airplane back to the family farm in Tolstoy. He joined the US Army in October 1953 to serve his country in the Korean Conflict and was honorable discharged in October 1955.
Lyle was united in marriage to Roxann Ruth Aman in Monterey, California, on February 13, 1954. Following his honorable discharge, Lyle and Roxann resided in Spokane, Washington, where he worked for Northwest Chemical Company. Eventually, they returned to South Dakota, where Lyle worked on the family farm in Roscoe until 1963, when he and Roxann moved to Aberdeen, SD.
Lyle worked for Aberdeen Flying Service, American Freight, and Consolidated Freight until his retirement in 1997. Lyle and Roxann enjoyed traveling extensively until they settled in Casa Grande Arizona and returned home to Aberdeen in 2023 to be near their children.
Grateful and honored to have shared Lyle’s life are his wife of 70 years, Roxann; children: Troy Nelson of Mahtomedi, MN, Terry Nelson of Aberdeen, SD, Alan (Peggy) Nelson of Vail, AZ, and Lori (Scott) Blinder of Mina, SD; one sister, LaVonne Rohrbach of Bowdle, SD; sisters-in-law Delila Biel and Lamoyle Aman both of Aberdeen, SD; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents; brother Kenny (Delores); and sisters: Verna (Roy) Kraft and Julie (Leo) Buechler.
