Lukas died at his home on Thursday, April 12th, after a long, brave battle with mental illness that just became too exhausting for him to endure.  On that sad day, our Luke with his sweet soul, sensitive heart and beautiful, fractured mind ended his life in this world in hopes of finding a peaceful, pain-free existence in Heaven.  May he rest in peace in God's loving arms.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials.

Lukas was born in Aberdeen, SD at Avera St Luke's Hospital on April, 28, 1989 to Paul and Gina (Ballinger) Huber. His big sister, Samantha, adored him and called him her "Baby Guy." Lukas attended grade school at Lincoln Elementary, then went to Simmon's Middle School and graduated from Central High School in 2007. He also attended college courses at Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD, as he greatly enjoyed the pursuit of knowledge.

Lukas was involved in many activities including Boy Scouts, soccer, and wrestling and could often be found running around with a clan of neighbor kids including his brother Alex and sister Samantha. Their make-believe adventures took them numerous places and he always had a goofy grin on his face and an idea in his head.

Some of his biggest passions included playing guitar, kayaking in the wilderness, drawing, disc golfing, hunting and traveling. His favorites places to be were the ocean just chilling to the relaxing sound of the waves and in the mountains of Colorado flying over fresh powder on his snowboard with his friends and brother Alex by his side. He was a free spirit that loved to go on adventures to new places and to meet interesting people along the way.

He worked a variety of jobs throughout his life including home construction, electrical work, oil pipeline laborer, and ski lift operator at Steam Boat Springs Resort (this was by far his favorite). He had a special place in his heart for his nieces, Kinley (4) and Nora (2) and enjoyed sharing his love of music and art with them.

Despite all of these passions and the many people that care deeply for him, Lukas suffered through a great many dark times in his life. We would like to take this time to extend our gratitude to those that tried to lend a helping hand during his difficult times including counselors, doctors, family and friends. Though his smiles became more rare as time went on, one felt very special to behold it, as his smile could light up a room. He tried to help anyone he came across no matter how bad his own inner turmoil became.

He is so very loved and will be greatly missed by the ones he left behind including his parents, Paul J. and Gina L. Huber of Aberdeen; his sister, Samantha (Eugene) Mitchell and their children, Kinley and Nora Mitchell; his brother, Alex Huber of Aberdeen, SD; maternal grandmother, Patricia (Marvin) Gregg of Oakland, IA; maternal grandfather, Robert Ballinger of Toledo, IA; maternal great-grandmother, Ruby Ballinger of Westboro, MO; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Arthur and Clara Huber of Herreid, SD; maternal great-grandmother, Wilma (Woodrow) Marrs of Tarkio, MO; maternal great-grandfather, Enos Ballinger of Westboro, MO; his uncle, David Huber of Canby, MN; and his sweet baby cousin, Bart.
