Ludwig B. "Louie" Kramer, 101, of Aberdeen, passed away Saturday, October 19, 2013, at Avera Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen, SD.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 26, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 409 3rd Avenue SE, Aberdeen, with Father Shane D. Stevens, Celebrant. Burial will take place at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Aberdeen with Military Rites conducted by the Sidney L. Smith Post #24 of Aberdeen.
Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements. Friends may sign his online guestbook at www.schriversmemorial.com.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Friday, October 25, 2013, at the mortuary with a Liturgical Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation continues for one hour prior to Mass at the church on Saturday.
Ludwig B. Kramer, one of thirteen children, was born March 6, 1912, to Ludwig J. and Marzelena (Dosch) Kramer near Mina, SD. He attended rural schools near Mina and Ipswich and also attended Holy Cross School in Ipswich. Louie worked for many family farms in the Mina, Ipswich, Cresbard, Chelsea, and Warner areas.
Louie entered the US Army April 10, 1942. He served overseas during W.W.II. He served twenty-seven months in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska, prior to serving in Central Europe. After his arrival in England, he participated in many battles in the Rhineland, Ardennes and participated in the Battle of the Bulge in France. He received numerous medals and citations, some of which are: five battle stars, the Good conduct Medal, six over-seas bars, Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Service Medal, Rifle M.K.M. and the Combat Infantryman's Badge. He received his honorable discharge on October 3, 1945.
Louie married Mary Magdalene Schneider August 10, 1948, in St. Mary's Catholic Church and they continued to make Aberdeen their life-long home.
Louie was employed as an auto mechanic for Cal Golz Auto Shop, Biegler Motors and Haar Motors for many years before retiring.
Louie enjoyed meeting with his many coffee friends and spending time with his many nieces and nephews. He especially enjoyed dancing every Saturday night.
Louie is survived by his beloved wife, Mary, of Aberdeen and many nieces and nephews.
Louie was preceded in death by his parents and his twelve siblings, Otellia Kramer, Sylvester Kramer, Wendlin Kramer, Bruno Kramer, Marcella Kampstra, Joe Kramer, Pius Kramer, Gregory Kramer, John Kramer, Frank Kramer, Steve Kramer and Mary Blondo.
