Lorrayne M. Mitchell

Lorrayne Marie Mitchell, 94, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2022, at Sanford Medical Center, Aberdeen.

A public visitation will be held Thursday morning, October 13, 2022, from 9:00-10:45 a.m., at Schriver’s Memorial Chapel. A private family burial will be at Riverside Memorial Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held at First United Methodist Church at 1 p.m., Thursday, with Pastor Mike Waldrop officiating.

Lorrayne Marie Dinger was born on September 3, 1928, to Albert and Blanche (Borden) Dinger in Hecla, South Dakota.  She attended school in Hecla and graduated from Hecla High School in 1945. After graduation, she moved to Aberdeen and was employed by Sacony Vacuum Co.  In 1948, she married William “Bruce” Mitchell and they moved to Vermillion, South Dakota where her husband attended USD.  After graduation, they returned to Hecla and eventually moved to Aberdeen for several years before moving to North Platte, Nebraska for 4 years; Aberdeen, South Dakota for 10 years, and then to Burnsville, Minnesota until her husband’s retirement in 1985.  After retirement, they returned to Aberdeen and spent the remainder of their years here.

Lorrayne enjoyed working in her garden, taking care of her lawn, wintering in Mission, Texas for 18 years, and babysitting for her grandchildren.  Her favorite activity was spending time with family at various locations during the holidays.

Grateful for having shared Lorrayne’s life are four children: Bonnie (Craig) Golz of Aberdeen, SD, Becky (Bob) Littau of Winner, SD, Doug (Judith) Mitchell of Woodbury, MN, and Ann Mitchell of Minneapolis, MN; seven grandsons; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Lorrayne was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce; and her sister, Joyce Debele.
