Lillian Caroline Swanson

The funeral service for Lillian Caroline Swanson, 94, of Aberdeen, will be 3:00 p.m., Thursday, September 4, 2014, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1620 Milwaukee Ave NE, Aberdeen, with Pastor Deb Grismer officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Ave NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the mortuary and one hour prior to the funeral on Thursday at the church.

Lillian passed away, surrounded by her family, on Saturday, August 30, 2014, at Avera Mother Joseph Manor Retirement Community Center in Aberdeen.

Lillian Caroline Johnson was born on February 23, 1920, to John Hans and Alma (Vinge) Johnson in Sisseton, SD. She was the 10th of 14 children.

Lillian was a foster grandparent for many years and enjoyed playing bingo and playing cards.

Lillian was a cook at Avera Mother Joseph Manor, waitress at various restaurants, housekeeper at the Holiday Inn, and employed at dry cleaners, all in Aberdeen.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; five brothers: Henry, George, Martin, Bennie, and John Johnson Jr.; eight sisters: Julia, Mildred, Matilda (Marge), Magna (Maggie), Irene, Thelma, Arlette, and Pearl; her daughter, Lucille (Lucy) Erickson; and her sons-in-law: Bill Pickrell, Clarence (Bud) Trego, and Elwyn Erickson.

Lillian married Swan Henry "Hank" Swanson on June 2, 1937, in Redfield, SD.

She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Pickrell of Bellevue, NE; her sons: Bernel (Larena) Swanson, Galen "Chip" (Marian) Swanson, and Lowell (Kathy) Swanson, all of Aberdeen, SD, and Ben Swanson of Wichita, KS; fourteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and five great great-grandchildren.
