Lila Jane Carlson was born March 1, 1934, to Nels Gustav and Wilma (Zieroth) Carlson in Waconia, MN.  This is the area where she was raised and attended school, graduating from Waconia High School as Valedictorian.

Lila was united in marriage to Lewellyn Charles Schwalbe on August 6, 1952, at the Moravian Church in Waconia.  In 1959, Lila and Lewellyn and their family moved to Aberdeen, where in addition to being a homemaker and raising her children, Lila also worked as a bookkeeper at Gold Bond, for Peter Buttaro, and later, at Farm Power.   The couple raised three daughters and shared 47 years of marriage before Lewellyn passed away in May of 1999.  Lila continued to make Aberdeen her home until the time of her death.

Lila was a member of First United Methodist Church in Aberdeen.  She served as President of the Red Cross Grey Ladies and was also active in Kiwanis.  In addition, Lila was a founding member of the WWII Pheasant Canteen Team.  In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking and baking, especially birthday cakes for her family.
