Leota M. Labesky, 92, of Aberdeen, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen.
Her funeral service will be 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, with Pastor Brian LaCroix officiating. Burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen. A time of fellowship with refreshments will follow the funeral service at Schriver’s Memorial Fellowship Center.
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday at the mortuary.
Leota Marlyn Hormann was born on December 1, 1921, to Ernest and Dora (Wolter) Hormann in Mina, SD. When she was 2 years old, Leota and her family moved to Aberdeen. This is the area where she was raised and attended school, graduating from Aberdeen Central High School with the Class of 1940. Following graduation, she found employment at the Tradehome Shoe Store in Aberdeen.
Leota was united in marriage to Joseph T. Labesky on January 18, 1943, in Boise, Idaho. The couple returned to Aberdeen, where Leota continued to work at Tradehome Shoes for several more years. Leota and Joseph’s marriage was blessed with two children, which she stayed at home to care for. In 1950, Leota began working at the S & L Department Store and remained there until 1964, when she became employed at Bostwick’s. Leota retired in 1970 and became a member of AARP. She continued to make Aberdeen her home until the time of her death.
Surviving Leota is her husband, Joseph Labesky of Aberdeen; one son, Thomas Labesky of Aberdeen; one daughter, Gloria Henderson of Aurora, CO; one brother, Lyle Hormann of Redfield, SD; two sisters, Vi Hormann and Loretta Hauck, both of Aberdeen; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great great-grandchildren.
Leota’s parents and six brothers preceded her in death.
