Lawrence Edward Hart, nicknamed “Shag”, was born on May 4, 1941, in Ortonville, MN, to B. Lloyd Hart and Eunice Montgomery.  He was raised and attended school in Ipswich, SD, graduating from Ipswich High School with the Class of 1959.  Larry then attended college in Sacramento, CA, before returning to the area.

He enlisted in the Army National Guard and was honorably discharged.

Larry was united in marriage to Penny Hansen on June 16, 1984, in Aberdeen, SD.  The couple was co-founders of Midwest Credits in Aberdeen.  Larry then owned and operated P & H Salvage before becoming the owner of Hank’s Liquor Store.  He continued to own and manage the liquor store for many years until he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, at which time he was forced to retire.  Larry bravely fought the disease for 12 years with dignity and a sense of humor and always had a smile for all of those that came to visit.

In his younger years, Larry enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was also an excellent pool player.  His greatest joy, however, was his four grandchildren, which he loved dearly.  Larry will always be remembered for his great sense of humor and for his love of playing practical jokes.

Grateful to have shared in Larry’s life are his wife, Penny Hart of Aberdeen; his daughters:  Heather Basham (Nick Fettig) and Dorinda (Toby) Stugelmayer, both of Aberdeen; and four grandchildren:  Jazmine Hart-Crissman, Kenzington Basham, Kyle Stugelmayer and Austin Stugelmayer.

Larry was preceded in death by his grandmother, Elvina Nigg; his parents, B. Lloyd and Eunice; two sisters:  Glena and Colleen; and his father and mother-in-law, Hank and Bette Hansen.
