Lawrence Bryant Hawkins, Jr., 94, of Aberdeen, passed away Friday, March 7, 2014, at Aberdeen Health and Rehab.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 10, 2014, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 409 3rd Avenue SE, Aberdeen, with Father Shane D. Stevens, Celebrant. A luncheon and time of fellowship immediately follows Mass at the church fellowship hall. Burial will take place at a later date at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen.

Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen is in charge of arrangements.

Lawrence Bryant Hawkins, Jr. was born on December 12, 1919, in Malone, Washington, to Lawrence Sr. and Betsy (Viles) Hawkins. He grew up in the Pacific Northwest and graduated from high school, while in the Navy, in 1937.

Lawrence joined the United States Navy at the age of 17 and participated in the Pacific Ocean Theater of WWII, the Bikini Island Atomic Experiment and the Korean Conflict. After serving his country for 22 years, he retired as the Navy Recruiter in Aberdeen. Lawrence attended college at Northern State in Aberdeen, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. He taught for one year at Sacred Heart Elementary School prior to working 20 years for Norwest/Wells Fargo Bank until his retirement.

Lawrence married Beatrice Brendel on September 30, 1944, in San Francisco, California. They were happily married for 69 years. Lawrence was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, The Knights of Columbus and the Aberdeen Elks Lodge. He enjoyed reading, hunting, and fishing.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Sr. and Betsy Hawkins; and his sister, Maxine Hawkins.

Lawrence is survived by his wife, Beatrice of Aberdeen; sons: Larry (Denzil) Hawkins of Eagle, Idaho and Dr. Darrell (Beckie) Hawkins of Denver, Colorado; grandchildren: Tracy (Derek) Wilson, Dr. Jay (Kelli) Hawkins, Jennie Hawkins and Michael Hawkins; and great-grandchildren: James, Clara and Samuel.
