LaVern J. “Hollywood” Bruckner, 81, of Bath, SD, passed away Sunday, July 31, 2016, at his

Mass of Christian burial will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 5, 2016, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 409 2nd Avenue NE, Aberdeen, with Father Michael Griffin as

Military rites will be conducted immediately following Mass.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Thursday, at the mortuary, with a liturgical wake service beginning at 7:00 p.m.  Visitation continues one hour before Mass at the church.

LaVern J. Bruckner was born July 22, 1935, to Steven B. and Gertrude (Kosters) Bruckner in Selby, SD.  At a young age, he and his family moved to the Ipswich, SD area, where he was raised and attended school.  LaVern later acquired his GED.

LaVern entered the United States Army on November 13, 1953, and served his country until April 16, 1954, when he was honorably discharged.  He returned to the Ipswich area and farmed for several years before moving to Seattle, WA, and becoming employed at Boeing Air Craft Company.  In 1961, LaVern again returned to the Ipswich area and farmed until 1980, when he began a 17-year career with the State of South Dakota Highway Department.  Following his retirement in 1997, LaVern enjoyed custom bailing, driving grain trucks, and helping others with their farming.

Blessed to have shared LaVern’s life are his children: Bob (Becky) Bruckner, Lincoln, NE, Debbra (Bob) Cantwell, Aberdeen, SD, and Monty Bruckner, Casper, WY; three grandchildren:  Jennifer Cantwell, Lincoln, NE, Travis (Taska) Cantwell, Watertown, SD, and Miranda Bruckner, Lincoln, NE; two brothers:  Tony (Marcine) Bruckner, Conde, SD and Steve (Janet) Bruckner, Pine Bluffs, WY; and five sisters:  Mary Ann Clausen, Overland Park, KS, Margaret Cooley, Santa Barbara, CA, Elizabeth “Betty” Stewart, San Diego, CA, Ardell (John) Albertson, Costa Mesa, CA, and Florence Whipple, Susanville, CA.

LaVern is preceded in death by his parents and four brothers:  Freddie, Joe, Frank, and Leonard.
