Lavern Fuhrmann

January 14, 1937 — November 2, 2015

LaVern Fuhrmann, age 78, returned to her heavenly home on November 2, 2015, with her family at her side. Her devotion to her family and firm belief in God supported her through her battle with cancer and ultimately gave her peace.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 5, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 409 3rd Avenue SE, Aberdeen, with Father Melvin Kuhn as celebrant.

Burial will take place at Morningside Cemetery in Roscoe, SD.

Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be 5-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the mortuary with a liturgical wake service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation continues one hour prior to Mass at church on Thursday.

LaVern was born in Bowdle, SD on January 14, 1937, to Jacob and Eva (Heilman) Grismer. She grew up on a farm west of Hosmer with her three brothers and one sister. She attended rural country school until the 8th grade and later received her GED.

LaVern was united in marriage to Mathew Fuhrmann on October 11, 1954, in Hosmer, SD. Mathew and LaVern started married life on a farm west of Roscoe, SD, where they had eight children. They farmed and raised livestock for 30 years before retiring and then moving to Aberdeen, SD in 2000.

LaVern enjoyed sewing, gardening, singing in the church choir, and was involved in Red Hats, Altar Society, Roscoe Commercial Club, and teaching CCD. Most importantly, she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In addition to raising her children, she was active in the farming aspect as well. LaVern and the whole family enjoyed fishing and camping. Mathew and LaVern also enjoyed taking long trips with dear friends and family, hitting every state in the Union and eight foreign countries. They have especially enjoyed having a motor home and spending several months in Arizona and Texas for the last 20 years.

Surviving LaVern is her husband, Mathew Fuhrmann of Aberdeen; seven children: Bernard Fuhrmann, Denver, CO, Jack (Pat) Fuhrmann, Greeley, CO, Cleo (Scott) Daly, Elkhorn, NE, Bruce (Janet) Fuhrmann, Roscoe, SD, Loren Fuhrmann, Sioux Falls, SD, Sherry (Dale) Jung, Roscoe, SD and Carol (Mike) Tolrud, Owosso, MI; 18 grandchildren: Travis, Riley, Carissa, Dustin, Lindsay, Dillon, Rachel, Heather, Andrew, Bridget, Nicholas, Brent, Jessica, Kali, Carly, Shane, Abigail and Elizabeth; eight great-grandchildren: Brock, Adelyn, Brayden, Gabriella, Bristol, Natalie, Lexi and Ryland; and one brother, Arnie Grismer.

LaVern was preceded in death by her daughter, Ava; her parents, Jacob and Eva Grismer; her brothers: Tony Grismer and Tom Grismer; and her sister, Jeannette Lunders.
