Laurence "Larry" A. Fischer, 66, of Aberdeen, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 3, 2014, in Edinburg, Texas.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at First United Methodist Church, 502 South Lincoln Street, Aberdeen, with Pastor Eldon Reich presiding. Burial, with military rites, will take place at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Aberdeen.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Monday, at the mortuary and one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday.

Laurence A. Fischer was born on August 23, 1947, in Aberdeen, SD, to Nicholas "Nick" A. and Lucille E. (Topel) Fischer. He was raised and attended school in Aberdeen and graduated from Aberdeen Central High School with the Class of 1965. Following graduation, Larry entered the United States Navy and served his country until 1971, when he received his Honorable Discharge. He then returned to Aberdeen, where he began what would become a 40-year career with the U.S. Postal Service.

Larry was united in marriage to Sharon Ann Meehan on June 27, 1978, in Omaha, Nebraska. The couple made their home in Aberdeen and their union was blessed with a son, Robert, and a daughter, Heidi. Larry retired in 2010 and continued to make Aberdeen his home until the time of his death.

Larry loved spending time with his family and especially enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed water skiing, camping and hunting. Larry had a special love of horseback riding. At the time of his death, he was taking part in a trail ride in Texas, which he loved to do.

Blessed to have shared his life is his wife, Sharon Fischer of Aberdeen; one son, Bobby (Joy) Fischer of Denver, CO; one daughter, Heidi Fischer and Kurt Himanga of Aberdeen; and four grandchildren, Jessalyn "L.J.", Jden "Tony", Anya, and Katherine "Katie". Laurence is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Robert; and one infant sister, Mary.
