Larry C. Johnson

Larry C. Johnson, 68, of Columbia, SD, passed away Thursday, November 5, 2020, at Tieszen Memorial Home in Marion, SD.

His wishes were to be cremated and due to the COVID pandemic, a Private Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, November 16, 2020, at Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, with Pastor Mike Jacobson, of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, officiating.

Larry C. Johnson was born to Clare and Donna (Knecht) Johnson on March 25, 1952, in Aberdeen SD.  He attended school in Groton, SD and graduated from Groton High School with the Class of 1970.  Larry furthered his education at Lake Area Vo-Tech in Watertown, SD, where he received a degree in Farm Equipment and Diesel Mechanics.  He lived in Columbia, SD for the first 56 years of his life, where he worked at Cenex as a mechanic.  Larry’s sense of humor and work ethic had customers and friends coming from all over northeastern South Dakota.  He was employed at the Cenex for almost 30 years before purchasing the station and opening Johnson’s Corner in 1997.  Larry continued to be a staple of the community for another 10 years, operating Johnson’s Corner, before moving to the Sioux Falls area, where he would spend his final years.

Larry enjoyed going to races, attending air shows, shooting, spending time with his grandchildren and of course, his 4th of July celebrations.  He was not one to shy away from a good prank or joke and enjoyed a laugh with friends or family. Above all, Larry loved his children, grandchildren, and siblings. We will miss you and we will see you again.

Surviving Larry are one daughter, Kelli (Derrick) Nordstrom of Sioux Falls, SD; one son, Matthew (Sarah) Johnson of Summerset, SD;  his sister, Barb (Glenn) Imberi of Aberdeen; his brother, Mark (Brenda) Johnson of Aberdeen; and his four grandchildren:  Talladega Johnson of Fairmont MN, and Nash Johnson, Noah Nordstrom, and Dawson Nordstrom, all of Sioux Falls SD.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Clare and Donna Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers will be:  Duane Roettele, Ralph Johnson, Alan Johnson, Steve Daly, Marty Weismantel and Al Davis.
