Kimberly Kay (Howe) Grote, 51, passed away Sunday, November 23, 2014, at her home in Mina, SD, surrounded by family, after a courageous six-month battle with brain cancer.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, at the mortuary with a Liturgical Wake Service being held at 7:00 p.m. Visitation continues one hour prior to Mass at the church on Wednesday.

Kim was born November 13, 1963, in Aberdeen, SD, to Frank and Dorothy (Leisen) Howe. She graduated from Cresbard High School in 1981 and then went on to attend Stewart's School of Hairstyling.

Kim married the love of her life, Mike Grote, on June 26, 1982. Together they had two children: Susie, in 1984 and David, in 1989. The family farmed in the Mina area. After various jobs, Kimberly retired in 2010 from Kessler's Pharmacy, and from there became a stay at home grandma. Mike was her true love, but her children and grandchildren were most sacred to her.

Kim loved to make people laugh and was constantly cracking jokes, and always brought a smile to everyone's face that she came into contact with. One of her greatest joys was being with family, you could always find her spoiling her grandchildren, making trips to Sioux Falls to have "Howe lunches" with her siblings, and spending as much time as she could with her children and husband.

Kim is survived by her husband of 32 years, Mike Grote; daughter, Susie (Dustin) Klapperich; son, David Grote; grandchildren: Maddon and Maesyn Klapperich, all of Aberdeen, SD; brothers: Rob (Evie) Howe of Sioux Falls, SD, Rick (Pam) Howe of Sioux Falls, SD, Russ (Annie) Howe of Bath, SD, and Frank (Joy) Howe of Brandon, SD; sister, Deb (Gary) Twedt of Sioux Falls, SD; mother-in-law, Ramona Grote of Mina, SD; sister-in-law, Chelle McConnell of Denton, TX; brother-in-law, Steve Grote of Mina, SD; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by parents, Frank and Dorothy Howe; brother, Randy Howe; father-in-law, Dale Grote; and grandparents, Ashton and Francis Howe and Michael and Ruth Leisen.
