Kim Owen Clausen was born on April 26, 1952, in Aberdeen, SD, to Arnold and Deloris (Morgan) Clausen. He grew up on a farm near Ashton, SD with his parents and six siblings. The family then moved to Aberdeen, where Kim attended and graduated from Roncalli High School with the Class of 1970. Following graduation, Kim attended Northern State College for a short time before deciding to join the workforce.

He began his career cooking at Blue Buffalo, JB's Big Boy and Sambo's restaurants. It was while working at JB's Big Boy that Kim met his future wife, Diane Jung. The couple was married in 1975 and shared a life together ever since. They made Aberdeen their home, where Kim began working at the 3M Corporation. During a brief layoff from 3M, Kim returned to Northern State College and received his Bachelor's degree in Accounting and Economics. He then returned to 3M and following 32-years of service, eventually retired. After realizing retirement was not for him, Kim began working at James Valley in Mellette, SD, until he found his place with the Aberdeen Yelduz Shriners. Kim made a very quick jump into the Recorder position, which he maintained until his health declined to the point he felt he was not doing his job justice.

Kim enjoyed music, reading, and was always learning. Above all, he loved his family. Kim was the proud father of Jessica, age 11 and Roberta, age 8, during their short time here before God called them home. He was once again deeply blessed when he became a very protective and proud father of two more beautiful girls: Jamie and Robin.

Kim was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Yelduz Shrine in Aberdeen as well as being active in the Parents and Policy Making.

Grateful to have shared in Kim's life is his wife, Diane; daughters: Jamie and Robin; and "the light of his life", his granddaughter Jaslyn; as well as his siblings: Brian (Jackie) Clausen of MN, Val (Kathy Notarino) Clausen of FL, Kurt (Karen) Clausen of Waubay, SD, Colette Koller of FL, Julie (Tom) Berquist of MT and Melanie (Jamey) Tollefson of Lead, SD.

Kim's parents and two daughters preceded him in death.
