Kathy was united in marriage to William Schanzenbach on October 4, 1970. She then began working at Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen, where she was employed for many years. Later she moved to Ipswich, SD, and was married to Danny Wipf. The couple farmed in the Ipswich area for several years before Kathy returned to Aberdeen. In 1999, she suffered a stroke and had been in need of specialized nursing-home care ever since.

Kathy enjoyed working crossword puzzles and reading books. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and also held a special place in her heart for her pet cats.
