Mass of Christian Burial for Kathryn "Katie" Marie Keenan, 89, of Aberdeen, will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 30, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 409 3rd Ave SE, Aberdeen with Father Shane D. Stevens and Kathryn's brother, Deacon Richard Kelley officiating. Burial follows at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, at the mortuary with a Liturgical Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation continues for one hour before Mass at the church on Thursday.
Kathryn passed away Saturday, May 25, 2013, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen. Blessed be her memory.
Kathryn "Katie" Marie Keenan was born on March 20th, 1924 in Aberdeen, SD. Her parents were Vern and Iva (White) Kelley. Kathryn was one of eight children.
Kathryn attended Sacred Heart School until moving to Pierre, SD in 1931. She graduated from Pierre High School in 1941, and then moved back to Aberdeen, where she worked for the Internal Revenue Service from 1943 to 1951.
On November 19, 1949, Kathryn married Donald Keenan. They had six children, four sons and two daughters, and Kathryn became a full time homemaker.
Kathryn was an active member of the Church Band 7, 8 and the Altar Society. She enjoyed playing cards and belonged to different bridge clubs. Kathryn also enjoyed bowling, dancing, and playing golf for many years.
Kathryn is preceded in death by her parents, Vern & Iva (White) Kelley; two sisters, Mercedes (Kelley) Volk and Mary (Kelley) Johnson; two brothers, Vern Kelley and Fr. John Kelley; her husband, Donald Keenan; and one son, James Keenan.
She is survived by three sons, Steven Keenan of AZ, Michael & Cheryl Keenan of AZ, and Paul & Robin Keenan of MN; two daughters, Patricia (Keenan) Stirling of ND and Janet (Keenan) & Mel Swanson of SD; two sisters, Sr. Verna Kelley of Aberdeen and Margaret (Kelley) Smith of MN; one brother, Richard Kelley of Aberdeen; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.
"It's our Mother 's love we all seek, It's our Mother 's love we all long to keep, It will always be in the end our love for Mother's that make us weep".
Memorials are preferred to The American Cancer Society for Breast Cancer Awareness.
