Karol June (Schriver) Bormes Parsons (82) of Aberdeen, passed away at the University of Minnesota Hospital on Wednesday, May 20, 2015.
Karol, a long time resident of Aberdeen, was involved in many community service activities, programs and associations. She was a member of St. Mary's parish and participated in many church activities over the years; served as a member of and president of the Library Board; Dakota Midland Hospital Auxiliary; founding member and past president of the Dakota Ballet Association; founding chairperson of the annual Roncalli Ball; member of and held executive positions in the Questors Antique Club; Board member of the Aberdeen Area Medical Association; advocate for hearing and vision programs in the schools; active in the Democratic party assisting on campaigns; Board member of the Aberdeen Area Medical Association; coordinated scholarship interviews for University of South Dakota Medical School students from northeastern South Dakota.
Karol June Bormes Parsons was born February 9, 1933 in St. Cloud, Minnesota to Aloysius and Isabel (Adrian) Schriver. She graduated from Delano High School in Delano, MN and attended St. Benedict College in St. Joseph, Minnesota. She married William Alfred Bormes in 1954 in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Together they moved to Aberdeen in 1964 and raised eight children. After the death of William Bormes she married James Laverne Parsons in 1996 in Aberdeen, SD welcoming his nine children into her heart.
She had a wide variety of interests including her children's activities, community service, world travel and history, cooking and baking, antiques, piano and her raspberry garden. She was the consummate hostess and always enjoyed entertaining guests in her home. She had an extraordinary love for Christmas and, especially during that season, was acclaimed for her beautifully decorated home.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband William in 1991; and brothers Ramon and John. Survivors include husband Jim; daughters and sons William C. Bormes, Castle Rock CO; Karla Bormes, Eden Prairie, MN; Dr. Paul (Susan) Bormes, Rapid City, SD; Dr. John Bormes, Aberdeen, SD; Mark Bormes, Sioux Falls, SD; Stephen (Tove) Bormes, Sioux Falls, SD; Dr. Jerome (Kristin) Bormes, Neenah, WI; Alyssa Bormes, Eden Prairie, MN; step-daughters and step-sons Brenda (Reed) St. John, Valley, WA; Jennifer McGahan, Sidney, MT; Curt (Elaine) Parsons, Billings, MT; Lisa (Michael) Wasnuk, Bemidji, MN; Patricia Parsons, Belleview, FL; Pamela Parsons, Chewelah, WA; John (Noriko) Parsons, Nagoya, Japan; Gail (Kevin) Schneider, Bozeman, MT; Glen (Sachiko) Parsons, Nagoya, Japan; 30 grandchildren (7 Bormes, 23 Parsons); and 1 great-grandchild. She will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 25, 2015 at 3:00 pm followed by a wake at 5:00 pm at Schriver Memorial Mortuary, 414 5th Ave. NW in Aberdeen. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. David Krogman on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at 10:30 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Aberdeen. The pallbearers will be her sons William, Paul, John, Mark, Stephen and Jerome Bormes. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Aberdeen.
All donations will benefit the Roncalli High School Bormes Science Scholarship.
