Karen Marie Cooper

Mass of Christian burial for Karen Marie Cooper, 62, of Aberdeen, will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 7, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Westport, SD, with Karen's brother, Father Ken Bain, as celebrant.

Burial will take place at Wayside Cemetery in Frederick, SD.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Monday, at Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, with a liturgical wake service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation continues one hour prior to Mass at church on Tuesday.

Karen passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2015, at Sanford Aberdeen Medical Center.

Karen Marie (Bain) Cooper was born on March 28, 1953, to Leslie and Marie (Daly) Bain in Aberdeen, SD. She attended Frederick High School and graduated with the Class of 1971. Karen furthered her education at Presentation College in Aberdeen, where she earned a degree in nursing.

Karen married John Longtin in 1972. Their union was blessed with two children: Tyler and Jennifer. On February 14, 1984, Karen was united in marriage to Dr. Roger Cooper. The addition of three stepchildren: Scott, Jill, and Ross, completed her family.

Karen was an accomplished nurse. She had a caring, helpful, and compassionate disposition and willingly gave of her time to individuals in hospice.

Karen's passions included gardening, cooking, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a loving, generous, and giving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, daughter, niece, and friend who will be dearly missed.

Blessed be her memory.

Grateful to have shared in Karen's life is her husband, Dr. Roger Cooper; her son, Tyler John Longtin; her daughter, Jennifer Jo (Gordy) Schmidt; stepchildren: Scott (Susie) Cooper, Jill (Chad) Cravens, and Ross (Heidi) Cooper; grandchildren: Collin Schmidt, Taylor Schmidt, Micah Schmidt, Leah Longtin, Chase Cooper, Tyler Shetterly, Jeffrey Shetterly, Tom Cravens, Ben Cravens, Sarah Cravens, and Owen Cooper; siblings: Dr. Jim (Claudia) Bain, Father Kenneth Bain, Mike Bain, and Gerry (Harlan) Krier; and her beloved aunt, Helen Daly.

Karen is preceded in death by her father and mother, Leslie and Marie, and one infant brother, Ronald Bain.
