Mass of Christian Burial for Julia E. Gruenstein, 89, of Aberdeen, will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 409 2nd Avenue NE, Aberdeen, with Father J. Joseph Holzhauser, Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.

Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen is in charge of arrangements. Friends may sign her online guestbook at schriversmemorial.com.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, at the mortuary with a liturgical wake service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation continues for one hour before Mass at the church on Wednesday.

Julia passed away Saturday, June 7, 2014, at ManorCare Health Services in Aberdeen.

Julia E. Lacher was born on April 18, 1925, in Zeeland, ND, to John and Elizabeth (Sahli) Lacher. At a young age, Julia moved with her family to Roscoe, SD, where she was raised and attended school.

Julia was united in marriage to Anton "Tony" Peter Gruenstein in Aberdeen on September 21, 1946. The couple made Aberdeen their home, where Julia was employed at the F.W. Woolworth Store for over 30 years and later at the V.F.W. Julia and Tony raised four sons and shared 34 years of marriage before he passed away in 1980. Julia continued to reside in Aberdeen until the time of her death.

Julia was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Aberdeen. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, walking, and going to casinos.

Blessed to have shared in Julia's life are her sons: Roy Gruenstein of Aberdeen and Larry (Julie) Gruenstein of Montpelier, ND; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Viola Hettich of Selby, SD.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons, John and Ronnie Gruenstein; one grandson, John M. Gruenstein; one brother, Valentine Lacher; and three sisters: Pauline, Margaret and Barb.
