Joyce Eileen (Ryman) Shilman went to sleep in heavenly peace on February 18, 2015. Like the true dairy farmer's wife that she was, she left early in the morning, right around milking time.
Joyce had been helping plan her 90th birthday party, which was to be held on Saturday, April 4, 2015. Now the family will celebrate her life at a memorial service that will be held on that day at 11:00 a.m., at St. John Lutheran Church in Warner, SD, with Pastor Jeff Whillock presiding. Burial will follow at the Warner Township Cemetery.
No visitation will be held prior to the service.
Joyce was a natural giver and gave selflessly to serve others. A devoted wife and mother, she spent her life seeing to the needs of her family. In addition to raising her family, she was active in numerous church and community organizations. She lived by example and was always finding ways to help those in need. Joyce will also be remembered for her way with words, her sharp wit, and wonderful sense of humor. A lover of music, she lived her life with a song in her heart, a twinkle in her eye and a smile on her face.
Joyce was preceded in death by her late husband, Harold Shilman; son, Jack Shilman; and brothers: Jack Ryman and Bill Ryman.
She is survived by her children: Barbara (Bob) Angerhofer, Kay (Roger) Vikander, Janet (Tom) McNary, Donn (Janet) Shilman, Larry Shilman, and Joel (Robin) Shilman; daughter-in-law, Sharon Shilman; sister, Margie (Dean) Wiedebush; and sister-in-law, Leota Ryman. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and three great great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to either St. John Lutheran Church in Warner or to the donors choice.
