Joseph "Joe" Fettig, 93, of Aberdeen, passed away, Saturday, February 28, 2015, surrounded by family, in Palm Harbor, FL, following a long and fulfilling life.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 7, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 409 3rd Avenue SE, Aberdeen, with Father Shane D. Stevens, Celebrant.
Burial, with military rites, will take place at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Friday, at the mortuary, followed by a Liturgical Wake Service and Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:00 p.m.
Visitation continues one hour prior to Mass at the church on Saturday.
Joseph Valentine Fettig was born on May 24, 1921, the first child born to Joe and Mary (Keller) Fettig in Strasburg, ND. This is the area where he was raised and attended school.
Joe served his country in the United States Army during World War II. On May 16, 1946, Joe was united in marriage to Sybella Kramer at the Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel in St. Paul, MN. Following his honorable discharge, the couple moved to Aberdeen, where they owned and operated the Flame Restaurant from 1945 until the early 1980s, when their sons took over ownership and continue to operate today.
In his lifetime, Joe was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post #24, and VFW Post #17 in Aberdeen. He enjoyed spending time outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Above all, Joe loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Joe is preceded in death by his son, David; his parents, Joe and Mary; three brothers: William, Leo, and Raymond; three sisters: Lillian, Delores, and Patricia; and son-in-law, Timothy Morrissey.
Blessed to have shared in Joe's life is his wife, Sybella; his children: Sandra (Dennis) Angerhofer, Paula (Randy) Kamentz, Susan (Larry) Schmida, Joe (Paulette) Fettig, Debbie (Doug) Stevens, Patti Lief, Rick (Rita) Fettig, Mary (Mike) Krynski, Becky (Joel) Dockter, Kristi (David) Bradsky; daughter-in-law, Karrie (Tom) Perrier; one brother, Herman Fettig; one sister, Ferney Schwartz; 41 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren.
The Fettig family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. David Wachs, the Suncoast Hospice Center Staff and to all of Joe's caregivers.
