Joseph James McBurney, Jr. was born on September 11, 1954, to Joseph James and Gertrude (Schmidt) McBurney, Sr. in Aberdeen. This is the area where he was raised and attended school, graduating from Aberdeen Central High School with the Class of 1972.
Joseph married Carla Rae Johnson on August 23, 1980, in Aberdeen. Their union was blessed with one son, Jeremy. The family made their home in Aberdeen, where Joseph was a self-employed contractor. He later began working with the Super 8 Corporation, building hotels across the United States. In the early 1990's, Joseph realized his dream of opening his own motorcycle shop called "Mac's Motorcycle Works & Gert's Crafts". He remained with his business for nearly a decade before moving to Las Vegas, NV in the late 1990's. While living in Las Vegas, Joseph became employed with the Harley Davidson Company. In 2002, he returned to Aberdeen to be closer to his family. Joseph reopened his motorcycle business and also returned to work with the Super 8 Corporation, where he remained employed until the time of his death.
Joseph enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting, and fishing. He especially loved riding motorcycle and had a true appreciation and fondness for Harley Davidsons. Much of his spare time was devoted to Alcoholic's Anonymous, helping others achieve sobriety.
Blessed to have shared in Joseph's life are his son, Jeremy (Erin) McBurney of Burnsville, MN; his mother, Gertrude McBurney of Aberdeen; two sisters, Debbra (Floyd "Kono") Zimmerman and Tamar Kay McBurney, both of Aberdeen; his sweetheart of over five years, Christine Noble of Frederick, and her four grandsons; several nieces and nephews; as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Joseph was preceded in death by his father and two great-nephews.
