Joseph Jerry Docktor, Sr, son of Roy and Geri Docktor (deceased), husband of Shereen, father of Joseph Jr. and Charity, father-in-law to Jason Ayres, grandfather to Alexandria and Taylor released this life on October 23, 2014 at the age of 64. Joe valiantly fought a 2 year battle with MDS.
Joe will be remembered for his Navy service in three tours of Vietnam from 1970 to 1974. He retired as Postmaster from the Post Office in Ipswich, South Dakota after 33 years serving Ipswich, Columbia, and Aberdeen. Joe was also an avid outdoors man. His love of the outdoors was not just wildlife, but in the gardens he created like an artist to canvass. Joe will be remembered for his endless humor, willingness to assist in any task, and the ability to look at the world with a bright eye and rakish smile.
Joe's life will be celebrated at Shriver's Memorial. All memories, anecdotes, and fish tales are welcome as we remember this amazing husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the MDS Foundation for research to provide hope for the future. (mds-foundation.org) Joe's hope was that his fight would provide hope and information for a future cure.
