The funeral service for Joseph H. Bruckner, 88, of Aberdeen, will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 29, 2014, at Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, with Father Melvin Kuhn officiating.
A luncheon and time of fellowship will immediately follow the service at Schriver's Memorial Fellowship Center.
Interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen at a later date.
Visitation, at the mortuary, will be 3-5 p.m., Sunday, with a liturgical wake service and rosary being held at 5:00 p.m. Visitation continues one hour before the service on Monday.
Joseph passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at his home.
Memorials are preferred by the family.
Joseph Henry Bruckner was born on July 2, 1926, in Selby, SD to Steve and Gertrude (Kosters) Bruckner. This is the area where he was raised and attended school. Joe was united in marriage to Adeline Fischer in Ipswich, SD, on February 19, 1951, less than a month before he began military service.
Joe entered the United States Army in March of 1951 and served his country until March of 1953, when he received his Honorable Discharge.
Upon his return, he and Adeline settled on a farm in Ipswich, SD, and lived there for several years before moving to Loyalton, SD. In 1975, the family relocated to Bath, SD, where Joe worked for Speciality Manufacturing, John Deere, and for Sharps Dairy Farm, Inc. Joe and Adeline moved to Aberdeen in 1977, where he continued to reside until the time of his death.
Joe had a life-long passion for farm life and was honored as "Farmer Of The Year" in 1958.
Grateful to have shared in Joe's life are his wife of 63 years, Adeline Bruckner of Aberdeen; eight children: Patricia (Danny) Petersen of Rapid City, SD, Linda (Dwight) Lehmann of Rapid City, Joseph (Gina) Bruckner of Detroit, MI, Kathy (Jay Brewster) Bruckner of Rapid City, Barbara (Douglas) Stevenson of Madison, SD, Donald (Jodi) Bruckner of Rapid City, Peggy (Kevin Marani) Bruckner of Pleasant Hills, CA, and Thomas Bruckner of Minneapolis, MN; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four brothers: Leonard (Evelyn) Bruckner and Vern Bruckner, all of Aberdeen, Tony (Marcine) Bruckner of Conde, SD and Steve (Janet) Bruckner of Pine Bluff, WY; and five sisters: Mary Ann Clausen of Overland Park, KS, Margaret Cooley of Santa Barbara, CA, Elizabeth "Betty" Stewart of San Diego, CA, Ardell (John) Albertsen of Costa Mesa, CA and Florence Whipple of Susanville, CA.
Joe's parents and two brothers, Frank and Freddie, preceded him in death.
