John L. Winterberg, 61, of Aberdeen, passed away Monday, August 25, 2014, at Aberdeen Health and Rehab.
His memorial service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 30, 2014, at Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, with Pastor D.T. Rawerts presiding.
John's wishes were to be cremated with burial taking place at Fairview Cemetery in Herreid, SD.

John L. Winterberg was born on June 9, 1953, to Willis and Velma (Statema) Winterberg in Linton, North Dakota. John was raised and attended school in Herreid, South Dakota, graduating from Herreid High School with the Class of 1972. Following graduation, John worked at several local farms.
John lived in El Paso, Texas for several years, where he drove truck for the Salvation Army. He then resided in Sioux City, Iowa before moving to Aberdeen in 2005. John became a resident of Aberdeen Health and Rehab in 2006 and continued to reside there until the time of his death.
John enjoyed watching old Western movies and was a fan of The Dallas Cowboys. He especially enjoyed the time he spent with family and friends.
Surviving John are eight siblings: James Winterberg of Aberdeen, Kenneth Winterberg of Redfield, SD, Marian (Randy) Flitter of Groton, SD, Jean Meyer of Mankato, MN, Richard (Kathy) Meyer of Mobridge, SD, Betty Meyer of Mankato, MN, David (Sheila) Meyer of Luverne, MN, and Shirley (Joe) Free of Traer, IA; and sixteen nieces and nephews: Jacklyn Winterberg, Victoria Winterberg, Heather Travis, Tyler Flitter, Tanner Flitter, Thadeus Flitter, Travis Flitter, Shelly Bieber, Heather (Justin) La Matta, Richelle (Blake) Friend, Jeremy Meyer, Cindy (Damon) Plymesser, Bryan (Michelle) Buttler, Tracy Buttler, Noah Meyer and Ariana Meyer.
John's parents and infant sister, Caroline, preceded him in death.
