John R. Rombs, Jr.

John R. Rombs, Jr., 80, of Aberdeen, passed away Monday, April 13, 2020, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen.  His wishes were to be cremated.

His memorial service, for immediate family only , will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 18, 2020, at Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, with Father Michael Griffin officiating.

Burial follows at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen.

John R. Rombs was born September 30, 1939, to John B. and May (Steers) Rombs in Aberdeen, where he was raised and attended Aberdeen public schools.

John married Anna Heier on November 11, 1957, in Aberdeen.  They had two children, Chuck and Peggy.  John was employed by Dakota Sash & Door Company and Danielson-Brost Inc. in Aberdeen.

John married Pat Miller on April 5, 1976, in Aberdeen. Pat’s four children:  Russell, Char, Chris, and Charice were added to the family.

John had his own repair business, called JR TV & Appliance.  He then worked for Nelson’s Electric and Champion Auto.  John was most recently employed with Burdette Electric, where he remained until he retired.

John was a “jack of all trades”. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix.  He enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  He also enjoyed playing Farkle.

Surviving are his daughter-in-law, Sheila Rombs of Aberdeen; daughter, Peggy Gruenstein of Aberdeen; son, Russell (Sherry) Miller of Sioux Falls, daughters:  Char Miller of Aberdeen, Chris Miller of Sioux Falls, and Charice (Jeff) Horacek of Sioux Falls; brothers:  Ed (Alice) Rombs of Aberdeen and Bob (Lynette) Rombs of Mandan, ND; sister, Dorothy Meyers of Frederick, SD; sister-in-law, Mary Rombs of Aberdeen; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by wife, Pat; his son, Chuck; his parents; his brother, Bill; his sister and husband, Mary Ann and Wayne Harty; and one great-great-granddaughter, Marley.
