John "Jack" Nelson, 73, of Aberdeen, passed away Saturday, December 5, 2015, at Aberdeen Health and Rehab.
Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 10, 2015, at Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, with Fr. David Janes as celebrant.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Private family burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery in Lisbon, ND.
John "Jack" Richard Jerome Nelson was born April 27, 1942, in Britton, SD to Oliver and Mary (Newman) Nelson. He grew up, attended school, and graduated in Lisbon, ND. Jack joined the United States Army on January 27, 1967. During his service, he spent time serving in Vietnam, and was later honorably discharged on January 26, 1970.
On February 12, 1972, Jack married Mary Jane Cook in Carson, ND. The couple was blessed with three children: Helen, Cheryl, and John. Following his time in the service he began his life-long career as an electrician, which included working at the missile sites in North Dakota and Melroe in Gwinner, ND. He then moved to Aberdeen and began working for Becker Huber Electric and lastly retiring from 3M as maintenance/electrician.
Jack was a member of the VFW Post #17, Knights of Columbus, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and the Friendship Singers at the Senior Center.
Grateful for having shared in Jack's life is his wife of 43 years, Mary Jane Nelson; their children: Helen (Jeff) Torrence of Aberdeen, SD, Cheryl (Josh) Braun of Waconia, MN, and John Nelson of North Dakota; and five grandchildren.
Jack was preceded into death by his parents, two sisters, and his aunts and uncles.
