JoAnn Dosch was born on January 16, 1939, in Strasburg, ND, to Roy and Theresa (Roehrich) Dosch. The family moved to Aberdeen, SD, when JoAnn was four years old. She attended St. Mary’s Parochial School and graduated from Central High School in 1957. Following high school, she attended Northern State College and worked as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell.
On March 30, 1964, JoAnn was united in marriage to LeRoy Bieber in Aberdeen. Together they established their home on a ranch near Leola, South Dakota, where they raised cattle and horses. Their family was made complete with the addition of three daughters: Theresa, Melissa, and Amy. The girls grew up appreciating faith, family, and hard work, inspired by their strong role models.
Although JoAnn was never particularly fond of the livestock side of ranch life, she played an irreplaceable role in keeping the operation running smoothly while LeRoy cared for the cattle and horses, and the girls helped with outdoor chores. JoAnn maintained a large vegetable and flower garden, took pride in caring for the lawn and landscaping, and kept both the home and yard in immaculate condition. She balanced the many responsibilities of ranch and family life with grace, teaching CCD and Home Start, supporting her daughters' involvement in 4- H, and cheering them on in their many activities. In her free time, JoAnn loved reading, watching her favorite TV shows, scrolling Facebook, online shopping, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, who were her pride and joy.
JoAnn was endearingly known as a shopping queen. Classy, stylish, and always well put together, she enjoyed keeping up with the latest fashions and finding a good bargain or coupon. She may have helped keep Herberger's in business for as long as it remained open, and it was a sad day in JoAnn’s life when it finally closed. Her family will forever miss and hold dear the understanding, caring, and classy spirit she embodied.
JoAnn is survived by her husband, LeRoy Bieber; daughters, Theresa (Bill Pitz) Schumacher, Melissa Bieber, and Amy (Kelly) Maurer; grandchildren: Tia (Nathan Gauer) Schumacher, Skylar Schumacher, Bailey Schumacher, Luka Schumacher, Caden Schumacher, Danny Schumacher, Evan (Jessica) Maurer, and Aden Maurer; great-grandchildren: Liam, Langston, and Delilah, and their mother, Ana Kyle, whom JoAnn held especially dear; brothers: Don Dosch, Val (Judy) Dosch, and David Dosch; siblings-in-law: Dale (Mardela) Bieber, Lois Bieber, Jeanne Bieber, and Mary Ann (Chuck) Mertes; special niece, Carroll Simmons; and many more nieces, nephews, and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Theresa; son-in-law, Milo Schumacher; granddaughter, Ashton Schumacher; sister, Betty (Wendell) Jahner; brothers, Roy Dosch, Robert Dosch, and Joseph Dosch (in infancy); and siblings-in-law, Willis (Joanne) Bieber, Allene (Morris) Eisenbeisz, Ron Bieber, and Dennis Bieber.
