Janet L. Malsam

Janet L. Malsam, 62, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away Saturday, November 1, 2014, at ManorCare Health Services in Aberdeen.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 409 3rd Ave SE, Aberdeen, with Fr. Melvin Kuhn officiating. Burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen.

Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, at the mortuary with a Liturgical Wake at 7:00 p.m. Visitation continues one hour prior to Mass on Wednesday at church.

Janet L. (Casey) Malsam was born September 26, 1952, in Cumberland, IA, to John and W. Elaine (Davis) Casey. Janet and her family moved to Forbes, ND, in February of 1960. She grew up on the family farm west of Forbes and attended school at Forbes, graduating from Forbes High School with the Class of 1970. Following graduation, Janet moved to Aberdeen, where she began working at Control Data.

Janet was united in marriage to Joe Malsam on January 27, 1973, in Aberdeen. The couple made Aberdeen their home, where Janet remained employed with Control Data for a total of 17 years until the time of its closing. Janet then briefly worked at Banner Engineering before beginning what would become a 20-year career with 3M, where she remained employed until the time of her death.

Janet enjoyed spending time with her grandkids, going to the races, spending time with her 3M co-workers, working in the flower garden, helping to design yard ornaments with Joe, and shopping.

Grateful for sharing Janet's life are her husband, Joe Malsam of Aberdeen; three children: Lisa Bader of Mandan, ND, Shawn (Becky) Malsam of Aberdeen and Shanna (Jeff) Hoven of Aberdeen; four grandchildren: Jenna Zantow, Kallie Zantow, Wheeler Malsam and Tyra Hoven, all of Aberdeen; her mother, W. Elaine Casey of Forbes, ND; and her siblings: Tom (Jan) Casey of Hankinson, ND, Pat (Larry) Berreth of Aneta, ND, Steve Casey of Disney, OK, Ronnie Casey of Forbes, ND, Doug (Marilyn) Casey of Wetonka, SD, Jean (Roger) Gunderson of East Wenatchee, WA, Murray Casey of Big Stone, SD, Linda (Christ) Gross of Forbes, ND and Martin (Becky) Casey of Van Couver, WA.

Janet's father, John Casey, and brother, Larry Casey, preceded her in death.

Pallbearers will be: Brian Malsom, Ryan Casey, Chad Gross, Kory Erickson, Jamie Malsom and John Mosley. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Janet's grandchildren.
