Janelle Kaye Klapperich, 67, of Aberdeen, passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2018, at Prairie Heights Healthcare in Aberdeen.  She passed peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

Her funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, October 15, 2018, at First Presbyterian Church, 318 South Kline Street, Aberdeen, with Reverend Ruth E. Clendenin officiating.

Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Aberdeen.

Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be 4-5 p.m., Sunday, at the mortuary, with a public prayer service beginning at 5:00 p.m.  Visitation continues one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

Janelle Kaye Tschetter was born October 30, 1950, in Doland, SD to Rueben and Dolores (Gross) Tschetter.  She grew up on the family farm and attended school in Doland.  In 1968, following graduation from Doland High School, Janelle moved to Aberdeen to attend college.  She received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Northern State in 1972 and then moved to Britton, SD to begin her teaching career.

Janelle was united in marriage to Phillip Klapperich on August 6, 1976, in Britton.  The couple made their home in Aberdeen, where Janelle taught English and Journalism in addition to serving as the yearbook and school newspaper advisor at Aberdeen Roncalli High School.  She then furthered her education at Northern State and received her Master’s Degree in Secondary Teaching and Learning in 2004.  Shortly thereafter, Janelle began working for Northern State, where she helped train local teachers.  She eventually returned to her teaching career at Aberdeen Central High School, where she remained until the time of her retirement in 2015.

Janelle was a faithful member and choir singer at First Presbyterian Church in Aberdeen.  In her spare time, she enjoyed scrapbooking and making greeting cards.  Above all, Janelle loved her family, and treasured being a grandmother to Oliver (6), Miles, (4), Ari (5), and Remi (4).

Grateful to have shared in Janelle’s life are her husband of 42 years, Phillip Klapperich of Aberdeen; her sons, Adam Klapperich of Shoreview, MN and Justin (Laura) Klapperich of Rapid City, SD; her mother, Dolores Tschetter of Huron, SD; one brother, Douglas Tschetter of Sioux Falls, SD; two sisters, Peg Tschetter of Canton, SD and Laurie Tschetter of Minneapolis, MN; and four grandchildren.

Janelle was preceded in death by her father, Rueben Tschetter.
