Jane Marie Dix was born September 25, 1952, in Aberdeen, SD to Cal and Florence (Vogel) Dix. She grew up in Aberdeen, where she attended Roncalli and graduated in 1971. Jane worked at the Pepsi Company for a year after graduation.
On November 11, 1972, Jane was united in marriage to Max Hammer at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Aberdeen. They made their home in Mellette, SD, where they farmed. To this union a daughter, Cindy, was born. Jane was the most supportive and loving Mom you could ask for. No matter what, she could always be counted on. Family meant everything to her.
Jane worked at Pulling's Meat Processing and Peterson's Meats in Mellette for 17 years. In 2002, when her granddaughter Mariah was born, she retired to babysit her. This started an unbreakable bond between the two. Mariah was the apple of her eye. Jane would do anything and go to the ends of the earth for her granddaughter. She never missed an event Mariah was participating in and often brought treats for the team, for which she became lovingly known as "Grandma Jane" to all. Jane also enjoyed travelling and especially loved trips to Florida, California, and Hawaii.
Grateful for having shared her life is her husband, Max Hammer of Mellette; daughter, Cindy (Terry) Winegar of Aberdeen; granddaughter, Mariah Winegar of Aberdeen; brothers: Mike (Vicky) Dix and Tom (Terri) Dix of Sioux Falls, SD, and Rich (Jenny) Dix and Kevin (Amy) Dix of Aberdeen; sisters: Patty (Craig) Simon of Aberdeen and Shirley (Darrell) Andrud of LaMoure, ND; sister-in-law, Deb Dix of Aberdeen; many nieces and nephews; and her precious dog, "Misty".
Jane was greeted in Heaven by her grandson, Derek; her parents; and one brother, Don Dix.
Because Jane was such an avid Roncalli fan, in lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Roncalli Athletic Department.
