James L. Ketterling, 58, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
A Prayer Service will be 5 p.m., Friday, December 30, 2022, at Schriver’s Memorial Chapel in Aberdeen with Pastor Mike Waldrop of First United Methodist officiating. Visitation will be 3- 5 p.m., Friday, December 30, 2022, at the mortuary.
Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements. Family and friends may sign the online guestbook and also view the service at www.schriversmemorial.com.
James Ketterling was born on January 17, 1964, to Oscar and Lucille (Kurle) Ketterling in Aberdeen, SD. He attended and graduated high school from Lisbon, ND. He lived in Ellendale for a short time and moved to Aberdeen. He worked in the automotive industry and worked at several automotive businesses including OK Tire, and most recently Napa Auto Parts.
James enjoyed Demolition Derbys and building cars for them. he enjoyed dirt track racing where he competed with his sons. His most recent hobby was playing cornhole, and he attended league every Tuesday night. James enjoyed country western shows and listening to polka music. James also loved to cheer on the Minnesota Vikings. Above all, his greatest pride and joy were his grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared James’s life are his four sons: Cody (Angela) Ketterling of Aberdeen, Colten (Shelby) Ketterling of Aberdeen, Matthew (Kari) Ketterling of Aberdeen, Zach Mehlhoff (Megan Bosch) of Groton, SD; girlfriend Konnie Anderson and her daughter Erin Roberts; one brother Jeffrey Ketterling; four sisters: Ruth Gruber, Donna Gustafson, Candice Ketterling, Anna Ketterling; and eight grandchildren: Ryleigh, Ashten, Jackson, Braxton, Corben, Hudson, Addisyn, and Paisley.
James was preceded in death by his parents.
In Lieu of flowers, the family prefers monetary donations to cover medical and final expenses.
A time of fellowship and playing cornhole will follow the prayer service at City Lights.
