Jack Alvin Arens was born June 3, 1974 in DeSmet, SD to Becky (Akkerman) Wolff. Jack attended the Children’s Care Hospital & School in Sioux Falls, SD from the ages of 5 to 18. He then moved to the Center for Independence in Huron, SD in 1993 until 2005 when he moved to Aspire in Aberdeen, SD, and remained there until his death.

Jack enjoyed many things in life, especially spending time with his family.  Although he could not talk, he used his Dynavox to communicate with all his family and friends and had many “jokes” he could tell and always wanted to know “Mom, would you like a Diet Coke?”  He loved to be in the kitchen and always wanted to be where the action was. He had a love for Reese’s peanut butter cups and Diet Coke.  One of his favorite things was Stuart Little and his friends, family, and caretakers would take a Stuart Little figure with them on vacation and take pictures for Jack to have.  His all-time favorite was Scooby-Doo and he could watch this continuously.

Blessed to have shared his life are his parents, Becky and Rick Wolff; his sisters Michelle (Nathan) Steiner and Kari (Joshua Hall) Wolff; his nieces and nephews: Justice (Jason) Larson, Kennedy Steiner, Elliott Steiner, Mallory Steiner, Cooper Steiner, Bishop Hall, Lena Hall, Jackson Hall; great niece and nephew Harley Dosch and Aiden Larson; and all of his caretakers and housemates at Aspire.

Jack was preceded in death by his brother, Matthew; and his grandparents: Elmer and Opal Wolff, Alvin and Mavis Akkerman, and Kenneth and Edith Starnes.

Please note the family has requested casual attire for the memorial service and if you have any Scooby-Doo attire to wear please do so.
