Irene Ann (Moffenbier) Call, daughter of Martin “Blackie” and Rozella (Marker) Moffenbier was born August 24, 1928, in Aberdeen, SD.  This is the area where she was raised and attended St. Mary’s Parochial School through the 8th grade.  Irene then began working in various cafes in Aberdeen.

When she was 19 years old, Irene travelled with a friend to California and it was there that she met her future husband, Virgil Call.  They were united in marriage on April 1, 1948, in Kansas City, MO.   The couple moved to Aberdeen in 1950 after their first daughter, Joyce was born.  After making Aberdeen their home, Irene and Virgil had their marriage blessed in a Catholic church in Sioux Falls, SD.  Irene and Virgil shared 53 years together before he passed away on May 30, 2001.  Irene was a life-long member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and continued to reside in Aberdeen until the time of her death.

Blessed to have shared in Irene’s life are her children:  Joyce Miller (Donald Lout) and Carol (Ronald) Glugla of Aberdeen, Gary (Rozanne) Call of Pueblo, CO and Tom (Darla) Call and Charles “Popeye” (Pam) Call of Sioux Falls, SD; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; her brother, Charles (Kayleen) Moffenbier; and many nieces and nephews.

Irene is preceded in death by her husband, Virgil; her parents, Martin and Rozella; her brothers, Phillip and Alfred Moffenbier; and her sister, Dorothy Mills.

The Call Family wishes to express their sincerest gratitude and deepest appreciation for the excellent care and services provided by Irene’s hospice nurses and social worker.  They are especially grateful to Erin, Jody, Deborah, and Kim.
