Mass of Christian Burial for Irene R. Herman, 91, of Aberdeen, will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, September 8, 2014, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 409 2nd Avenue NE, Aberdeen, with Father J. Joseph Holzhauser, Celebrant.
Burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen.
Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be one hour before Mass at church on Monday. No visitation will be held at the mortuary.
Irene passed away Wednesday, September 3, 2014, at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen.
Irene R. Knecht was born December 26,1922, to John and Rosa (Fritz) Knecht at Selby, SD. Irene grew up and attended school at Selby, graduating from high school in 1941. Irene then graduated from Northern State College in Aberdeen and taught school in the Selby area for several years.
On September 10, 1945, she married Herman M. Herman in Bowdle, SD. They lived in Aberdeen for a short time before moving to the Triple H. Ranch west of Barnard. They lived on the farm for 43 years until they retired in 1989 and moved to Aberdeen. Irene and Herman shared nearly 62 years of marriage before Herman passed away on July 6, 2007. Irene continued to make Aberdeen her home until the time of her death.
Irene was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Westport, the Barnard PTA and her local extension club. She enjoyed reading, sewing, and having coffee with neighbors and friends.
Surviving Irene are her son, Fran, and his wife Cindy, of Plymouth, Minnesota; granddaughter, Hayley Hilton, and fiancAC. Trevor Lien, of Aberdeen; great-grandsons, Brayden and Hunter, of Aberdeen; one brother, James, and his wife, Virlene Knecht, of Aberdeen; sister-in-law, Margie Knecht of Selby; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Preceding Irene in death were her husband, Herman; parents; one sister; three brothers; and several brothers and sisters-in-law.
Honorary Pallbearers are: Jim and Virlene Knecht, nieces and nephews, and Irene's coffee friends and neighbors, especially niece Carol Sheldon.
Pallbearers are: Bill Sheldon, Rex Rohwedder, Ron Mardian and Harley Gage.
