Irene M. (Gutenberg) Kraft

Irene M. Kraft, of Aberdeen, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2020 at Primrose Cottages in Aberdeen, one day after her 93rd birthday.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 2, 2020 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 409 2nd Avenue NE, Aberdeen, with Father Andy Thuringer, Celebrant.

Burial follows at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to Mass at the church on Thursday.

Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.

Irene M. Gutenberg was born June 27, 1927 in Aberdeen, SD to Michael and Mary (Heier) Gutenberg.  She attended St. Mary’s Parochial School in Aberdeen and graduated high school from Mount Marty Girls School in Yankton, SD.

Irene was united in marriage to Daniel Albert Kraft of August 27, 1949 in Aberdeen.  The couple made Aberdeen their home and Irene began working at Internal Harvester.  She later worked in the medical records department of St. Luke’s Hospital and also worked at Dakota Midland Hospital doing medical transcription and working in their medical records department until she retired.  Irene and Dan raised five children and shared almost 52 years of marriage before he passed away on July 26, 2001.  Irene continued to reside in Aberdeen until the time of her death.

Irene was a life-long member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aberdeen.  In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and knitting.

Grateful to have shared in Irene’s life are her children:  Steve Kraft of Aberdeen, Tom Kraft of Phoenix, AZ, Mike (Susan) Kraft of Aberdeen and Maggie (Craig) McMullen of Colorado Springs, CO; and her grandchildren:  Hannah Kraft, Jake Kraft and Mariah Kraft-Kennedy.

Irene is preceded in death by her husband, Dan; her daughter, Rosemary Kraft; her parents, two brothers, and two sisters.
