Howard Kuebler

Howard Kuebler, 93, of Aberdeen, passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2014, at ManorCare Health Services in Aberdeen.

His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 20, 2014, at Zion Lutheran Church, 1732 South Main Street, Aberdeen, with Pastor Marcia Sylvester officiating.

Burial, with military rites conducted by the Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post #24 of Aberdeen, will take place at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery in Aberdeen.

Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Friday, at the mortuary and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

The family prefers memorials to Avera St. Luke's Guest House in Aberdeen.

Howard Kuebler was born May 22, 1921, on the family farm south of Wishek, North Dakota, to Karl and Sophie (Eissinger) Kuebler.

Howard enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1943 and served his country in the European Theatre during World War II. He was honorably discharged as Corporal in the 9th Air Force Division in 1946.

Following his return to the states, Howard married Violet Wolfer in Aberdeen on September 21, 1949. To their union one son, Howard "Woody" Kuebler, was born. Violet passed away on December 20, 1954.

Howard was united in marriage to Monica (Gisi) Grote on December 24, 1965, in Aberdeen. The couple made Aberdeen their home, where he was employed at Winston Newell, Hartung Construction, and Kyburz Construction, before beginning what would become a 23-year career at Northern State University.

Howard was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Loyal Order Of Moose, Fraternal Order Of Eagles, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the Senior Center in Aberdeen. He also spent many hours delivering meals on wheels and volunteering at the Avera St. Luke's Guest House.

Howard enjoyed riding motorcycles, playing accordion, working on bicycles and "tinkering" in the garage.

Grateful to have shared in Howard's life are his wife, Monica Kuebler of Aberdeen, SD; sons: Howard Charles "Woody" (Joanne) Kuebler of Eagan, MN, Les (Karen) Grote of Frederick, CO, Doug (Sherron) Grote of Aberdeen, SD, Scott (Marion) Grote of Rapid City, SD, and William (Lynda) Grote of Aberdeen, SD; one brother, Albert Kuebler of Aberdeen, SD; three sisters: Eleanor Graf and Irene Daschle, both of Aberdeen, SD, and Arlene Hanson of Bath, SD; many grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Violet.

May the Lord reward Howard for all the good he has done.
