Hilda M. Sackmann

August 3, 1920 — May 17, 2015

Hilda Sackmann passed away Sunday, May 17, 2015, at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen.

Hilda M. (Kramer) Sackmann was born August 3, 1920 to George and Christina (Schmidt) Kramer in McIntosh County, ND, where she grew up and attended school.

Hilda was united in marriage to Ervin A. Sackmann on October 13, 1940. The couple made their home in Wishek, ND before moving to Ashley, ND, where they owned and operated Sackmann Jewelry. In 1969, they moved to Aberdeen where Hilda worked as a sales clerk with Siebrecht Floral and Hallmark Crown Gallery. Hilda and Ervin brought up three children and shared 64 years of marriage before Ervin passed away in 2004. Hilda made Aberdeen her home until the time of her death.

Hilda enjoyed traveling, playing cards, collecting all things penguin related, doing embroidery and listening to music. She loved sports and was an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins, the Minnesota Vikings, and the Green Bay Packers. Even at the remarkable age of 94, Hilda attended the 2014 Green Bay Packer-Minnesota Viking football game, a true highlight in her life.

Above all, Hilda loved being a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She cherished the time spent with her family and will always be remembered for being a wonderful cook and for preparing the whole family's favorite meal of sausage, dumplings, creamed potatoes, and kuchen.

Blessed to have shared in Hilda's life are her children: Gleason G. (Janet) Sackmann of San Antonio, TX, Juanita (Dennis) Herold of Green Bay, WI, and Susan (Sidney) Schock of Fargo, ND; seven grandchildren: Michael, Christopher, and Andrew Sackmann; Brandon Herold and Tiffany Clarke (Herold); Maegan Schock and Joanna Fisher (Schock); and eight great-grandchildren: Reese, Piper, Ben, Jacob, Elle, Graham, Cassy and Callie.

Hilda was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin; parents: George and Christina; six brothers: Alvin, Edwin, John, Bill, Reinhold, and Karl; and seven sisters: Alma, Helen, Elsie, Christina, Carolina, Pauline and Emma.
