Helen Katherine Biegler, 98, of Aberdeen, passed away Thursday, October 25, 2018, at Avera Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 2, 2018, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 409 2nd Avenue NE, Aberdeen, with Father Andy Thuringer as celebrant.

Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be one hour prior to Mass at the church on Friday.

Helen Katherine Biegler was born March 12, 1920, to Bernard Joseph and Anna Marie (Usselman) Biegler in Aberdeen, SD.  This is the area where she was raised and attended school, graduating from Aberdeen Central High School with the Class of 1940.

Helen lived most of her life in Aberdeen, except when she moved to San Francisco, California during World War II and worked as a welder in the shipyards.  Upon returning to Aberdeen, she became employed at what is now Sanders Sew-N-Vac, where she taught sewing classes and also sold sewing machines and vacuums.  Helen later worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Barber and Dr. Kelly and was also employed as a childcare provider for several families over many years.

Helen was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was also a National Catholic Forrester.  Her hobbies included stamp and coin collecting and reading.  Helen was also an excellent seamstress who sowed her own clothes.  She loved spending time outdoors and walked everywhere, as she never had a driver’s license.

Helen is survived by eight nieces and nephews; 19 great-nieces and nephews; and many great-great nieces and nephews; as well as many cousins.

Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Anna Biegler; brother, Arthur Biegler; sisters Elinor Pfaff and Rosella Millard; sister-in-law, Stella (Weisgram) Biegler; brothers-in-law, Aelred “Tom” Pfaff and Henry “Hank” Millard; niece, Susan K. Madison; and great-nephew, baby boy DeWalt.
