Herbert Lloyd Stellner was born on October 27, 1923, to Herbert L and Ellen (Dahme) Stellner. He grew up on farms a few miles southwest of Aberdeen. Lloyd attended school in Aberdeen and graduated from Aberdeen Central High School with the Class of 1941. He furthered his education at Webster College (now Webster University) in St. Louis, MO, where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration.
Lloyd was united in marriage to Lorraine Swensen in 1950. Their union was blessed with one son, Mark. The family made Aberdeen their home where Lloyd was employed as a Postal Clerk with the United States Post Office before working in the Finance Department and Real Property Management Division of the United States Bureau of Indian Affairs. In 1969, the family moved to St. Louis, MO, where Lloyd held positions as a Contract Specialist for the United States Army Aviation Systems Command and Supervisory Contracting Officer for the United States Army Aviation Systems Command. In 1972, Lloyd was presented the Outstanding Performance Award while at the United States Army Aviation Systems Command. Lloyd and his family then relocated to Aberdeen, MD, where he accepted the position of Supervisory Contracting Officer at the Aberdeen Proving Ground. In 1985, Lloyd began his association with what he described as a most rewarding experience, working for the Yelduz Shrine Temple. Throughout his tenure with the Shrine, Lloyd held various positions such as Recorder, Hospital Representative, and Secretary-Treasurer. He loved visiting with parents and children about how the Shrine Hospitals have helped children have better lives. Lloyd also emphasized that he and Lorraine had met so many wonderful people through their participation in numerous Shrine activities.
Lloyd was a member of the Masonic Aberdeen Lodge #38.
Grateful to have shared Lloyd's life is his wife of 65 years, Lorraine Stellner of Aberdeen; his son, Mark (Chris) Stellner of St. Louis, MO; three grandchildren: Mark (Alyssa) Stellner, Stephanie (Ryan) Knapik, and Nicole Stellner; and two sisters: Joyce Pifer and Darlene Bulian.
