Glenn E. Spangler, 80, of Aberdeen, South Dakota, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2026, at Aberdeen Health and Rehab.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at 10:30 am at Selby Memorial Gardens in Selby, South Dakota.
Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is honored to serve the Spangler family. Friends and family may sign the online guestbook at www.schriversmemorial.com
Glenn was born on November 26, 1945, to Al and Ruth (Beecher) Spangler. He joined his older brother, Gary, and the two shared a close bond throughout their childhood.
He graduated from Selby High School with the Class of 1963 and went on to attend Black Hills State College, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. After teaching a year in Custer, he taught three years in Wyoming. Glenn attended the Denver Institute for Heating and Air Conditioning. His career took him to several states, including Colorado, Wyoming, California, and Arizona.
In 1969, Glenn married Mary Duvall, the love of his life. Though they later chose separate paths, they remained lifelong friends and continued to share a special connection.
Following a brain aneurysm in 1997, Glenn returned to South Dakota to be closer to family. He worked for Hogg Restaurant Service and enjoyed mowing lawns in his spare time.
Glenn loved the outdoors and embraced every opportunity for adventure. He enjoyed hiking, bicycling, riding motorcycles, family pheasant hunts, four-wheeling, and taking long walks. His active lifestyle reflected his appreciation for nature and the simple pleasures of life. He had the kindest soul and gave his heart to all he loved.
He was a member of Spirit Riders and Aberdeen Gift of Life. After receiving a kidney transplant at the age of 67, Glenn proudly participated in the annual Kidney Walk each year, grateful for the gift he had received and eager to support others facing similar challenges.
Glenn treasured the friendships he made throughout his life. Those who held a special place in his heart included Mary; Topper and Judy; Gene and Sharyn; Dave and Johanna; and all of his Perrion cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Al Spangler, in 1992; his mother, Ruth (Beecher) Spangler, in 2005; his brother, Gary Spangler, in 1964; and his cousins, Ted, Don, Duane, and Jeanne.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to Avera Hospice, the social workers, and all of the staff at Aberdeen Health and Rehab for the genuine care, compassion, and love shown to Glenn during his final years.
