Gary "Lee" Jenkins was born April 11, 1947 to Virgil Austin and Jesse Juanita (Pierce) Jenkins in Atlanta, Kansas. Lee was raised by his Grandma Ruby Jenkins, with whom he was especially close. Atlanta, KS is where he grew up and attended school. He was only 19 years old when his parents passed away. Lee led a very adventurous life. He worked for the railroad and in the oil fields of Texas. While in Texas, he belonged to a hunting club, where they had rattlesnake roundups. Lee had many stories to tell from these days. His work on the oil rigs led him to Ecuador. Lee later moved to Las Vegas, NV where he met Mae Remele. From there, they moved to Dallas, TX and eventually settled in South Dakota, where Mae was originally from. Lee then started his own contracting business, where he was known for his superior work. He also served on the City Contractor's Board. Lee and Mae were married on July 20, 1996. They were blessed with two awesome kids, Maria Lee, born on July 25, 2002 and Austin Lyle Born on November 18, 2005. Lee's best times were spending time with his kids, teaching them to fish, hunt, and metal detect. Lee was blessed with the ability to be an exceptional dancer. He would share his gift of rhythm with Mae any chance they would get. Lee and Mae were always the envy of all the couples on the dance floor. He also passed on his interest in old coins. Just this past January, the family had the trip of a lifetime when they went to Disney World. Lee will always be known for his sense of humor, he could have everyone in the room doubled over in laughter. He was never without a funny story or a joke to tell you. Lee was a friend to all and would do anything for you. We will forever remember his bright blue eyes and his smile. Lee passed away Thursday, September 4, 2014, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital, Aberdeen surrounded by his loving family after a courageous and valiant battle with cancer.

Lee is survived by his wife Mae; daughter Maria; sons, Austin and Kelly; one brother, Ron (Bev) Jenkins; two sisters, Kathryn (Dave) Tanner and Susan Jenkins; his mother-in-law, Jeanne Remele; brother-in-law, Tim Remele; sisters-in-law, Kim (Ron) Mikkelson and Linda (Dave) Burough; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
