Floyd Peter Schweigert was born on June 1, 1949, to Clarence and Lenora (Haller) Schweigert in Aberdeen, SD, where he was raised and attended public schools.
As a young man, he started working for farmers Kenny and Shirley Westner and Marvin and Frances Hoffman, where he developed a love for farming and a strong work ethic.
In August 1968, Floyd was united in marriage to the love of his life, Joy Ann Bahl. Together, they made their home in Aberdeen and raised three children: Melissa, Jody, and Bradley.
Floyd worked as a heavy equipment operator throughout his career, including positions with Jacobs Construction and the City of Aberdeen, where he worked for 29 years before retiring. He continued to work part-time with Terry Boyle for several more years after retiring.
In his free time, Floyd loved being outdoors, hunting, fishing, and camping. He enjoyed playing cards and bingo, and he even raced cars when he was younger. Floyd was always willing to lend a helping hand to family and friends. More than anything, he cherished traveling with Joy and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They attended countless school and sporting events together, supporting their family in everything they loved to do. Floyd and Joy shared fifty-one and a half wonderful years together before Joy passed away in 2020.
Floyd is survived by his children: Melissa (Mark) Wika, Jody (Paul) Haar, and Brad Schweigert (Karen King, special friend); grandchildren: Alexandria (Tim English) Wika, Samantha (Christian Dider) Wika, and Timothy Wika, Britini (Josh) Dehaai, Levi (Kaitlyn) Haar, and Collin (Amber Beyer) Haar, and MaKiah (Noah Arnold) Schweigert; five great-grandchildren; siblings: Lloyd (Pam Angerhofer) Schweigert, Robert (Tammie) Schweigert, Lenny (Betty) Berger, Barb Schweigert, David (Linda) Schweigert, and Susie (Steve) Ramsdell; sisters-in-law: Brenda (Neill) Dobler, Kim (Brad) Nack, and Kathy (Jim) Morken.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Lenora; wife, Joy; parents-in-law, Viola and Elwin Bahl; and sister-in-law, Debbie Raymond; daughter-in-law, Jody Lynn Berg.
