Evelyn "Eva" L. Mikkelson, 98, of Aberdeen, passed away Friday, February 26, 2016, at her residence.
Her funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 5, 2016, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 624 North Jay St, Aberdeen, with Pastor Tyler Poppen officiating.
Burial follows at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen.
Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is handling arrangements.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Friday, at the mortuary, followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation continues one hour before the service at church on Saturday.
Evelyn "Eva" Leana (King) Mikkelson was born April 14, 1917 to Carl and Marie (Buckholz) King in Hanson County, SD. She attended Fulton Public School and graduated in 1936.
Eva was united in marriage to Kenneth E. Mikkelson in 1937. The couple made their home in Letcher, SD for seven years before moving to Aberdeen, SD in 1961.
Eva worked for five years at St. Joseph Hospital in Mitchell, SD and nine years at St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen before joining the staff of Dakota Midland Hospital in Aberdeen, where she was employed an additional 18 years before retiring.
Eva was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and the Women of the Moose, both in Aberdeen. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo, bowling, and going to different Casinos.
Grateful to have shared Eva's life are her sons: Kenneth C. (Beverly) Mikkelson of Mitchell, SD, Marvin D. Mikkelson of Aberdeen, and Ronald G. (Kim) Mikkelson of Sioux Falls, SD; her daughters, Janice J. (Richard) Smith of Alexandria, SD and Judy M. (Russell) Cross of Mt. Vernon, SD; 18 grandchildren; 87 great and great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Marion Wibben of Ipswich, SD and Ruth Lassegard of Ames, IA; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Eva is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth E. Mikkelson; her parents; her brothers: John, Samuel, Bill, and Warren King; sisters, Bessie Drown and Mabel King; father and mother-in-law, Peter W. and Laura Mikkelson; brother-in-law, Jim Drown; sisters-in-law, Tillie King, Dorothy King, and Orma King; and daughter-in-law, Marlene Mikkelson.
