Mass of Christian Burial for Ervin Schlickenmyer, 89, of Aberdeen, will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 4, 2014, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 409 2nd Avenue NE, Aberdeen, with Father J. Joseph Holzhauser, Celebrant.
Burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen.
Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be one hour before Mass at the church on Thursday.
No visitation will be held at the mortuary.
Ervin passed away Thursday, August 28, 2014, at Aberdeen Health and Rehab. Blessed be his memory.
Ervin Schlickenmyer was born in Eureka, SD, on July 5, 1925, to Mike and Rosina (Liedle) Schlickenmyer. At the age of six, he and his family moved to Leola, SD. In 1939, the family moved to a farm in the Leola area, where he lived and farmed with his parents.
Ervin was united in marriage to Irene Schaeffer in 1949. The couple continued farming until 1955, when they moved to Burbank, California. While living in Burbank, Ervin worked for Lockheed Aircraft Corporation until 1960, when they moved to Granada Hills, California and he held employment with Omaha Engineering. Ervin and Irene then made their home in the San Francisco, California area, where Ervin began a 23-year career working for Nordskog Industries and remained there until the time of his retirement. Following his retirement, Ervin and Irene returned to Aberdeen, where he continued to reside until the time of his death.
Ervin was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aberdeen. He enjoyed traveling and doing handyman types of work and also spent much of his time doing volunteer work for R.S.V.P.
Blessed to have shared his life are his wife, Irene Schlickenmyer of Aberdeen; four sisters: Verna (Elmer) Rall of Spokane, WA, Eva Thompson of Granada Hills, CA, Virginia Eckmann of Britton, SD and Florian Geffre of Colorado Springs, CO; and many nieces and nephews.
Ervin is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers (one in infancy) and one sister in infancy.
