Elizabeth Valis, 96, long-term resident of Manahawkin, NJ, and Holiday City West of Berkeley Township, NJ, passed away peacefully with family at her side on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at Avantara care facility in Groton, SD.

Funeral services and interment were held in NJ. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at Schriver’s Fellowship Center on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, 5:00-8:00 PM.

Elizabeth was born in 1929 in Hoboken, NJ, to Anastasio and Maria (Kandjis)Dokianos. Most recently, she resided with her daughter, Joanne, in Aberdeen, SD.

Elizabeth was a dedicated teacher at Waretown (NJ) Elementary School for many years. She was a lifetime active member of the Greek Orthodox Church. Elizabeth will be remembered for her generosity, kindness, compassion, and humor.

Elizabeth is survived by her three children: Joanne (Steven) Nemmers of Aberdeen, SD; Mary Ellen (Eric) Janssen of Denton, TX; and Thomas Valis of Toms River, NJ; six grandchildren: Sarah, Marie, Rachel, Jessica, Peter, and Jacob; six great-grandchildren: Nathan, Daniel, Reagan, Ryan, Jack, and Alexandria.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Peter Valis; parents, Anastasio and Maria Dokianos; sister, Krisanthe Borg; and granddaughter, Angel.
