Elizabeth Ann Sloan was born April 9, 1931, to John C. and Mary Ann (Roberts) Sloan in Aberdeen. She attended school in Aberdeen and graduated from Central High School in 1949. In 1951, she married Lawrence Blide. From this union came two sons: Bill and Paul, and two daughters: Gloria and Debra. They continued to make their home in Aberdeen while they raised their children.
Elizabeth lived her whole life in Aberdeen, except for ten years, where they lived in Huron, SD. While living there she worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Corporation and for the government switchboard. She was a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Affairs and a member of The Aberdeen Senior Center.
Elizabeth enjoyed working in her garden, playing bingo, and camping. She always made it a point to make sure she still got to church while camping. She looked forward to Wednesday night pizza nights and watching Wheel of Fortune. Most importantly, she loved spending time with family and friends, and she cherished special occasions and holidays with her family.
Grateful for having shared Elizabeth’s life are her two sons: Bill (Jackie) Blide of Aberdeen, and Paul (Donna) Blide of Sioux Falls, SD; one daughter Debra Northrop of Aberdeen; one sister Janet (Vic) Rocchio of Riverside, AZ; nine grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence; four sisters, Mary Shew, Ruth Richards, Dorothy Hoenisch, and Jeanne Wilde; and one daughter, Gloria Lynn O’Brien.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to any favorite charity.
