Edward William Scheer

Edward William Scheer, 81, of Aberdeen, died Friday, April 15, 2016, at Golden LivingCenter-Ipswich.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 21, 2016, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1429 North Dakota St, Aberdeen, with Pastor Liz Dieseth officiating.

Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, Aberdeen, is handling the arrangements.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, April 20th, at the mortuary, with a prayer service being held at 7:00 p.m.

Burial, with military rites, will take place at Concordia Lutheran Cemetery in Fessenden, ND.

Edward William Scheer was the oldest son of Edward J. and Ida F. (Mixner) Scheer, born on the Scheer Homestad, three miles west and two miles south of Hamberg, ND on October 25, 1934. He received his schooling, all eight grades, at School #1, District #8, in Hamburg Township. He had one year of high school at Parshall, ND after which he started helping his dad farm.

He was drafted in July of 1954, was inducted into the United States Army on July 27, 1954, in Fargo, ND, and was sent to Ft. Leonard Wood MO for Basic Training for eight weeks. He went back to Ft. Leonard Wood for eight more weeks of Engineer training at the Fifth Army Engineer School for Heavy Equipment, after which he was shipped to Germany to help rebuild the country. While in Germany for 18 months he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Army of Occupation (Germany) Medal, the Cold War Medal and the Marksman Medal with the MI Rifle Bar. He was honorably discharged on the 14th day of July 1956 at Ft. Sheridan, IL.

Edward was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, VFW C.C. Croal Post #17 in Aberdeen, and the American Legion Post #261 in Almont, ND.

Edward was a very active volunteer for SPURS Therapeutic Riding Center and the North East Area Horse Racing.

Grateful for sharing in his life are his daughters, Hollie Jo (Dale) Jacobson, Almont, ND and Hope Kanze of Aberdeen; seven grandchildren; and numerous friends.

Edward was preceded into death by his parents, four siblings, and one grandchild.
